I passed Tshoot, so in my opinion to nail this exam as quickly as possible, you have to do the following:

--->- Start building the exam topology by your own, do not copy and paste the configuration, this will not help. The purpose of this step is to review switching and routing concepts you learned in the previous two exams. Every time you are not sure of how a certain routing protocol works or is configured, just consult the study books of ROUTE/SWITCH.
The second goal is to familiarize yourself with the exam topology, memorize the IP addresses, this will help you alot in the exam.
I did not refer to the topology at all in the exam, except to get to the devices console.

I already published my topology in PT5.3 here: hxxp://

the GNS3 topology is here: hxxp://

---->> After completing building the topology, reproduce each one of the 12 trouble tickets. you can find 10 of the TT's reproducible in GNS3 and only 5 reproducible in PT due to PT simulation limitations. I recommend to get the TT configurations from ciscoguides_com.

--->> Develop an algorithm for solving the TT's.
For example, I always started to ping, which is the edge router (R1) internal interface, if I am able to ping it, I would go further and ping, which is the directly connected ISP IP address. If I am able to ping that too but not the webserver, then the route to the webserver should be missing from the R1 routing table. But if I am not able to reach ISP IP, this means that there is an ACL/NAT misconfiguration on R1.

If I am not able to ping, I would start going backwards in my pings, do that until I find which router the problem lies on.

doing the pings, the problem might be even default gateway (DSW1) reachablilty, this means that you most probably (90% probability) are facing a layer 2/layer 1 problem (trunk, vlan filter, access port not in the correct vlan, interface shutdown..)

the other 10% is when DSW1 is unable to communicate with the directly connected router (R4), maybe EIGRP neighborship problem exists...

---->>Lastly, before going to the exam, you must try out the DEMO exam from cisco: hxxp://

the question are not the same as in the actual exam TT's, but you should easily be able to spot the errors in them. The point here is familiarize yourself with the exam environment.

Hope this help guys.('Basketball')

i passed yesterday the tshoot with 890/1000 and why this strange score because i get bored on the exam cuz the testing center was so strange i finished on 45 mins ok the imoprtant thing for my brothers and sisters :

* i got 4 questions
* 3 multiple choice
* and the last question is like the hotspot question containing 12 trouble tickets

and 10 trouble tickets starts that the clent cant ping the server and 1 trouble ticket talking about hsrp and the the other abou ipv6 and it related to ospfv3 ok

by the way i didnt use the command show ip route on the exam i just ping from the client to server to verify that really its not pinging then start to ping every interface on the network one by one till i got the msg that i cant ping this interface ok after that u found the problem on the device start to ping from ur edge router which is the router connecting u to the isp and friends start all ur trouble tickets using layer 2 diagram cuz then if u found that asw1 is ok and dsw1 is ok move to the layer 3 diagram and be paitient dont do like me and here i will mention the all trouble tickets and ready to answer any one here about the exam and for all trouble shooter meet u in CCIE R&S section soooon hope u all succes in certificate and thanks to all admins here
aha forgot to say what material i use first the official certification guide read it well special the first 3 chapters cuz the written question is from there & i used the quick referance sheet and i think its not help full for this exam its made for the preparing to ccie and i used the tshoot certkit vedio series by kevin wallace and if u got some time u can check the routing and switching cert kit they will help but i dont cuz i get bored from reading the book @ last days preparing for this exam tooks from me 3 weeks 2 weeks and half reading the book and half a week watching certkit

1) what will be alternative for:
ip ftp username xxxxxx

5) What will happen if you configure 2 routers to be NTP servers?
Answer -------- NTP preffered
6) Logging console warning
The standard order is:
The answer can be : Logging buffered.
7) Network Maintenance: Choose from the list 2 network maintaining types. Answer ------------------- Structured and Interrupt Driven
8)Serial line is up,protocol is also up?But cdp neighbor not working?
Ans) Data link layer.
9) What happens if you run the command: logging console warnings.
All the answers were false but I had to chose the closest to the right answer. Choose the option with Emergency, Alert, Critical, Warning. Take note, that you won't see the "Error" there.
We all know that the answer must be "Emergency, Alert, Critical, Error, Warning" but in the exam, "Error" is not given..
1- I forgot
2- Warning, Notification, Error, Debugging...
3- just Warning Logging
4- Warning, Critical, Alert, Emergencies
10) access-list 199 permit tcp host host
access-list 199 permit tcp host host
debug ip packet 199 What would be the output shown on the console?
Ans: Only communication between host and host

All TTs from above I conclude and add some experience
1) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Situation2: Unable to ping DSW1(Use L2 Diagram)
On ASW1 fa1/0/1 and fa1/0/2 switchport access vlan 10 command is not there
Ans2)Access vlan
Ans3)give command: interface range fa1/0/1-/2 switchport access vlan 10
2) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Situation3: Unable to ping DSW1 & in port channel configuratioin of ASW1 vlan 10 is not allowed. (Use L2 Diagram)
Ans2)Switch to switch connectivity
Ans3)on port channel 23 give switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,200
3) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Situation4: Unable to ping DSW1(User layer 2).
under running config the mac address for fa0/1 is 0000.0000.0000.0001 and fa0/2 it 0002.
Also check show interfaces fa1/0/1 and fa1/0/2, u will c that the interface is in error disabled (show ip int brief will show down down)
Ans2)Port security
Ans3) On fa1/0/1 and fa1/0/2 do disable port security and do shut ,no shut.
4) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Sitution 1: Unable to ping DSW1(Use L2 Diagram)
Vlan Access map is applied on DSW1 blocking the ip address of client
Ans1) DSW1
Ans2) Vlan access map
Ans3)No vlan filter 10

****Client got ip address for me but cannot ping its gateway****
5) HSRP: DSW1 does not become active.
Situation 12: under the standby configuration of DSW1, the command standby 10 track 1 decrement 60 is given, this has to be changed to track 10. (use ipv4 Layer 3)
Ans1) DSW1
Ans2) HSRP
Ans3) delete the command with track 1 and enter the command with track 10.
6) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Situation 5: Unable to ping R4 fast ethernet port from dsw1.
check ip eigrp neighbors from DSW1 u will not c R4 as neighbor.(use ipv4 Layer 3)
Ans1) R4
Ans3) Change eigrp process no: from 1 tp 10 because DSW1
7) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Situation 6: Unable to ping serial interface of R4 from the clients.
Do show run, check the names of the route-maps. (use ipv4 Layer 3)
Ans1) R4
Ans2) route redistribution
Ans3) change the name of the route-map under the router EIGRP or router OSPF process from ‘to’ to ‘->’.
Cool IPV6 loopback of R2 cannot be pinged from DSW1’s loopback.
Situation 11: ipv6 ospf was not enabled on R2’s serial interface connecting to R3. (use ipv6 Layer 3)
Ans1) R2
Ans2) IPV6 ospf
Ans3) on the serial interface of R2, enter the command, ipv6 ospf 6 area 0 (check the IPV6 topology.)

****For me this issue coz of interface that connect to R3 not contain command ipv6 ospf 6 area 0 just look from show ipv6 ospf neigh****
9) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Situation 7: client is unable to ping R1’s serial interface from the client.
Check where authentication is not given under router ospf of R1. (use ipv4 Layer 3)
Ans1) R1
Ans2) ipv4 OSPF
Ans3) ip ospf authentication message-digest command must be given on s0/0/0

****For me when show run on R1&R2 I see this command give in interface but i show ip ospf neigh R1 can't see R2 I really confuse in this by the way I sure to answer put command to interface on R1****
10) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Situation 8: client is not able to ping the web server, but the routers can ping the server. NAT problem. (use ipv4 Layer 3)
Ans1) R1
Ans2) IP NAT
Ans3) under NAT access list, enter the command permit

Situation 9: R1 is not able to ping
check bgp neighborship. **** show ip bgp sum****
The neighbor’s address in the neighbor command is wrong under router BGP. (use ipv4 Layer 3)
Ans1) R1
Ans2) BGP
Ans3) delete the wrong neighbor statement and enter the correct neighbor address in the neighbor command (change to
12) Client 1 is not able to ping the server
Situation 10: client is not able to ping the server. Except for R1, no one else can ping the server. (use ipv4 Layer 3)
